Key to these trends is the diverse nature of revenue profiles, and a relatively undifferentiated portfolio of services.

“We wanted to focus on the immediate situation to get a quick snapshot that can provide directional insight.” said Paddy Padmanabhan, CEO of Damo Consulting, speaking from HIMSS 2016 at Las Vegas. “We decided not to do another “ranking” of service providers. We have chosen to provide some guidance on how to parse the numbers, and have left it to our audiences to come to their conclusions based on reported facts.”

He added, “Perhaps the biggest question on our minds is: what makes a healthcare practice a healthcare practice?”
Below are key Damo Consulting findings:

• Size matters: However, the overall revenue numbers are only a part of the picture. Size can be a critical factor for some buyers.
• The composition of revenues from the healthcare practice in the sample varies widely: the variations are due to the representation of segments (for example, Life Sciences) or the offering type (for example, infrastructure support) in overall revenues. Unfortunately, segment level information is not available for the most part. But considering the qualitative remarks, one can draw some inferences.
• M & A activity, such as Cognizant’s acquisition of Trizetto in 2014, and Wipro’s acquisition of Healthplan Services, announced in February, is driving the industry’s strategy for healthcare.
