Health systems, dealing with the double-whammy of increased costs of COVID-19 response and the loss of revenue from elective procedures, are looking down the barrel of financial distress and furloughs. The $100 billion set aside in the first round of relief under the CARES Act is barely enough for 1 week of lost revenues. The CMS has issued guidelines for a careful, phased return to normal healthcare operations.
