This year, we conducted the CHIME online focus group discussion with our esteemed CHIME healthcare provider members and healthcare leaders, who agreed they still need humans-in-the-loop while planning AI applications in healthcare settings. While generative AI is being used to streamline administrative tasks to reduce the administrative burden on healthcare professionals, the trend is towards using Generative AI to provide deeper insights and pattern recognition across large sets of health data. Discussions also emphasized the need for robust AI governance frameworks to manage risks associated with AI deployment, particularly concerning data privacy, security, and ethical use.
According to David Brenner, Director of Clinical Informatics, Crystal Clinic Orthopaedic Center, on the Big Unlock Podcast episode 144, thinking the older population does not need technology integrated into patient experience because they may not have it is a misnomer. Today, almost everybody has it or has a caregiver who has access to it. Paying attention to this patient feedback helped the clinic reduce cancellation rates of appointments scheduled.
