Damo helps large regional health system with vendor selection for API platform strategy
The client, a major regional health system in the eastern United States, serves over 3 million patients in over 40 counties.
Background: API and microservices strategy for innovation acceleration
As part of the core IT transformation efforts in a multi-year digital transformation program, the client was looking to develop and implement an API and microservices strategy to enable data access and accelerate innovation. The health system was using several integration platforms and was gradually evolving to embrace an API-first strategy for the enterprise. Damo Consulting was asked to review the approach to API management and recommend a technology platform strategy that would also enable monetization of innovation through proprietary API’s developed in-house.
Approach and results: Evaluated client’s need and identified an industry-leading platform partner for API management and API services
Damo Consulting conducted detailed in-house research and evaluated the technology architecture and costs of two industry-leading API management and integration platforms. Through a series of internal workshops facilitated by Damo and supported by Damo research, the client determined that the real need was for a robust API management platform leveraging existing integration technologies currently deployed in-house. Leveraging its existing deep connections in the technology community, Damo Consulting helped the client’s IT leadership quickly establish a direct connection with the leading API management platform providers at a leadership level. After a quick evaluation which included onsite demos and proposal process, the client selected a best-in-class platform for its needs. Damo subsequently helped select an API services partner for implementing the API governance model and COE. The partner was selected through an RFP process that identified and evaluated leading global IT services firms for API development. The entire process of selecting a platform vendor and a services partner was completed in a 4-month timeframe.
